Far East Crisis to End

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Far East -- Normal supply of electricity to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky's houses will resume in early hours Wednesday, the governor of Kamchatka said Monday.

The Kamchatka emergencies commission decided to lift restrictions caused by the acute shortage of fuel.

At present, power is being supplied for an average of 12 hours a day, Governor Vladimir Biryukov said.

The power companies could not purchase fuel because consumers owe them 500 million rubles ($20.6 million), and federal agencies, which have not paid their bills for years, account for 40 percent of that amount.
