CIS Fighting Drug War

MOSCOW -- The top police officials from Russia and 11 other former Soviet republics have signed agreements on joining efforts to fight drug trafficking and the illegal alcohol trade, Itar-Tass reported.

The interior ministers of the 12 members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a loose alliance of several ex-Soviet nations, met last week in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Rushailo announced that the ministers signed accords Saturday on combating illicit alcohol trading and drug trafficking, Itar-Tass reported.
