WWII Vet Finds Shell

MOSCOW -- A World War II veteran uncovered a 100-kilogram artillery shell in his vegetable garden in northwestern Russia, a news report said.

The shell, containing 16 kilograms of TNT, was defused Friday, and no one was injured.

The veteran, Oleg Vasilyev, had tilled the garden with tractors and shovels for 10 years but only found the shell this week, Itar-Tass reported.

Artillery shells, grenades and bombs leftover from World War II are often uncovered throughout areas of Russia that saw heavy combat.
