Telecom Roadshow

BONN, Germany -- Deutsche Telekom AG and Telecom Italia SpA kicked off a roadshow for their planned $81 billion merger with a series of presentations Wednesday in Frankfurt seeking backing from institutional investors.

The former monopoly telephone companies have failed to rouse strong shareholder support for the deal so far, but Deutsche Telekom chief executive Ron Sommer said early Wednesday that he expected strong backing after the companies outline their vision.

Sommer and Italian counterpart Franco Bernabe would then take the roadshow to Milan on Thursdayand London on Friday, spokesman J?rgen Kindervater said in Bonn.
