Siberian Town Flooded

MOSCOW -- A Siberian town and the surrounding countryside was flooded after ice jammed a river, forcing authorities to use explosives to clear the jam, a news agency reported Monday.

The jam on the Yenisei River was caused by blocks of melting ice piling up along a four kilometer stretch as the spring thaw set in, Itar-Tass reported. The jam caused the river to overflow its banks, flooding the nearby town of Vorogovo on Sunday, it said.

No injuries were reported in the town of some 1,400 inhabitants.
