New Tariffs Enacted

MOSCOW -- The Russian government published a series of resolutions in its official gazette Thursday, setting new export tariffs on some metals, metal products and scrap for six months, and new sugar import tariffs.

Aluminum and aluminum products, as well as ferrous and precious metals, pearls and precious and semi-precious stones, some mineral fertilizers, paper and cardboard have been added to the list of commodities liable to a 5 percent export tariff.

Cut and polished diamonds can be exported tax-free, the respective resolution says.

It says the tariff will come into effect for a period of six months, starting seven days from publication.
