Belarus Has Kept Arms

MOSCOW -- Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said he has not destroyed his country's nuclear missile facilities even though it no longer has atomic warheads, a news agency reported over the weekend.

Lukashenko has lamented Belarus's decision to relinquish its nuclear weapons after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union. He gave up the last of the weapons at the end of 1996, expressing regrets that have since grown stronger.

On Saturday, he said that "all launch pads have been preserved despite pressure on the part of both NATO and Russia," Interfax reported.
