Aid Sent to Kosovo

MOSCOW -- Russia has sent four planes to Macedonia over the past few days with humanitarian aid for Kosovo refugees, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Friday.

"The plane that landed today in Skopje is the last of the four planes that we planned to send to Macedonia. It had 24 tons of medicines, food, clothes and blankets on board," a ministry spokesman said.

He rebutted reports by Russian news agencies that the planes had been sent to Macedonia after they were denied permission to fly to Belgrade.

Moscow earlier sent a truck convoy carrying aid to Belgrade specifically for Serbs. This shipment provoked criticism, even among some in the Russian media, which has largely sympathized with the Serbs during the Kosovo crisis.
