Wal-Mart Settles Suit

WASHINGTON -- Retail powerhouse Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Amazon.com Inc. that charged the online bookseller with hiring several of its technology workers to illegally acquire trade secrets about Wal-Mart's elaborate computing systems.

The suit, originally filed last October, alleged that Seattle-based Amazon.com had hired former Wal-Mart employees for the purpose of gaining access to proprietary technology information.

Under the terms of the settlement, Amazon.com must reassign former Wal-Mart technology officials to jobs that do not parallel those they held at Wal-Mart. The agreement includes no cash payment between the two companies, and no admission of guilt by Amazon.com.
