Tax Deadline Extended

MOSCOW -- Russia's tax payers have been given an extension on filing their 1998 tax returns until the end of the month, tax officials said Tuesday.

The tax returns were originally due to be filed by April 1, but under a law that came into effect Tuesday, tax filers now have until April 30, said Anna Komardina, deputy head of the Tax Ministry's income tax office.

Late returns will attract a one-off fine of 416 rubles ($16) plus fines of 5 to 25 percent a month on any undeclared revenues.
