Tajik Mission Returns

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan -- The United Nations will bring back all its foreign staff to Tajikistan now that three men have been convicted of killing four UN workers there last July, officials said Friday.

The convictions last month mean that UN teams will resume monitoring a 1997 peace accord that ended a civil war between the government and the mostly Islamic opposition, UN envoy to Tajikistan Jan Kubis said at a news conference.

Kubis said UN workers involved in programs to develop Tajikistan's shattered economy and infrastructure would also return.
