Quake Hits Far East

MOSCOW -- A strong earthquake rattled the Far East on Friday, but no damage or injuries were reported.

The quake struck Thursday near the border between Russia and China, about 250 kilometers southwest of Vladivostok, Itar-Tass said.

The news agency said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.4 - enough to cause major damage - and was felt in Vladivostok.

The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake at 7.2 on the Richter scale and said the epicenter was at a depth of 560 kilometers, which would have significantly reduced its impact on the surface.
