Patriarch Hails Union

MOSCOW -- Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexy II said Wednesday that a Slavic union of Russia, Belarus and Yugoslavia would be "truly peacemaking," Interfax reported.

"The great miracle, the return of the people to Mother Church and the religious revival of the peoples of our countries, is the guarantee of our common spiritual triumph," Interfax quoted him as saying Wednesday.

Alexy also called on the world community to lift the economic, political and cultural blockade against Yugoslavia, the news agency reported.
