Paris Rescheduling Talk

MOSCOW -- The Paris Club of creditor countries is considering rescheduling crushing Russian payments on Soviet-era debt, Russian news agencies said Wednesday.

They quoted First Deputy Finance Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, in Paris for unofficial consultations with the Club, as saying creditors might reschedule payments due in 1999 and 2000.

"So far there is the feeling that creditors are not enthusiastic about a massive decrease in the debt burden, about a debt writeoff. But on the other hand the creditors are ready through a rescheduling to help with payments in 1999 and 2000," Itar-Tass quoted him as saying.
