Dagestan Cafe Blast

MOSCOW -- An explosion ripped through a cafe in southern Russia, killing one person and injuring six, Itar-Tass reported Monday.

The blast occurred around midnight Sunday near the town of Kizlyar in Dagestan, a republic that borders the turbulent, breakaway territory of Chechnya. The victims are friends and relatives of the cafe's owner, Itar-Tass reported. Last month, three policemen were abducted from the cafe and taken to neighboring Chechnya, the report added.

Chechnya's turmoil has spilled over into neighboring regions, including Dagestan, which is plagued by periodic kidnappings and bomb blasts.
