Meat Aid Deal Agreed

WASHINGTON -- The United States and Russia have reached final agreement on the terms of a massive U.S. meat-aid package for Russia, a top U.S. Agriculture Department official said Friday.

Purchase authorizations are expected to be released next week with shipments expected to begin in April, said John Reddington, director of the livestock and poultry division at the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service.

"We did conclude an agreement yesterday," Reddington said. "All of the issues have been resolved."

The meat is part of a nearly $1 billion U.S. food-aid package for Russia.
