Italian Official Visits

MOSCOW -- Visiting Italian Foreign Minister Lamberto Dini and his Russian counterpart said Tuesday they would cooperate to find solutions to the crisis in Kosovo.

Both nations are part of the six-nation Contact Group that is mediating peace talks between Yugoslavia and the ethnic Albanians who comprise the majority in Kosovo province.

Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Vadim Gustov said he was pleased that Italy was trying to help Russia join the World Trade Organization and was seeking to assist in restructuring Russia's large foreign debts. The Russian and Italian foreign ministers also discussed bilateral cooperation Tuesday, including Italian participation in the elimination of Russian chemical weapons.
