Ex-Premier's Son Held in Fatal Hit-and-Run

The son of Oleg Soskovets, a former first deputy prime minister, was detained on suspicion of running over and killing three pedestrians while driving his Mercedes off-road vehicle along a highway west of Moscow at night, officials said Tuesday. Alexei Soskovets, 25, insists that his vehicle was hijacked shortly before the accident and he was not behind the wheel when it veered off Rublyovskoye Shosse and hit three Tajik citizens on Sunday, police said. Davron Makhmadaliyev, Abdulasom Aminov and Abdulo Abdulayev were killed in the hit-and-run accident while they were walking with two other Tajik men on the shoulder of the highway 25 kilometers west of Moscow at about 12:05 a.m. Sunday. All five men worked at night at local construction sites and were on their way to visit an acquaintance. Makhmadaliyev and Aminov died instantly, but Aminov was rushed to a hospital, where he died a few hours later, said Moscow region police spokesman Gennady Melnik.
