Russia Eyes U.K. Tender

MOSCOW -- Russian-Ukrainian consortium Antonov said Wednesday that it will bid in a British air force tender for cargo jets.

The tender, results of which will be announced next January, calls for leasing four military cargo aircraft over a seven-year period.

The Antonov design bureau in Kiev and Aviastar, based in Ulyanovsk, Russia, manufactures the world's largest aircraft, the An-124.

To comply with the stipulation that British companies must be involved in producing the winning aircraft, the producers plan to team up with aerospace companies Rolls Royce and Air Foyle.

The planned An-124-210 aircraft is an advanced version of the An-124, equipped with Rolls Royce engines and foreign navigation systems.
