2 Held in Venom Sale

MOSCOW -- Two people have been detained at a Moscow hotel for attempting to sell almost half a kilogram of snake venom, Interfax quoted city police as saying Tuesday.

The suspects, a 29-year-old resident of Novokuznetsk in the Kemerovo region and a 53-year-old Muscovite, were caught in the Hotel Akademicheskaya on Leninsky Prospekt in the south of the capital. Police confiscated 400 grams of snake venom from the pair, Interfax said.

Experts estimated the wholesale price of the confiscated venom to be $2.8 million, the news agency said.
