Refinery Lacks Crude

VILNIUS, Lithuania -- Lithuania's Mazheikiu Nafta, one-third owned by U.S. Williams International, said Wednesday it has partially halted refining operations due to a lack of Russian crude supplies.

"Since yesterday [Tuesday] evening Mazheikiu refinery will work on a hot circulation regime until the crude supplies are resumed," the company said in a statement. It gave no further details.

Mazheikiu has suffered three costly 1999 shutdowns due to halts in Russian crude supplies. This halt would be the second since the U.S.-based Williams took a stake and operational control of the concern in late October.

The previous crude interruptions forced Mazheikiu Nafta into a nine-month loss of almost $40 million.
