Plane Malfunctions

MOSCOW -- A Russian passenger plane with 150 people aboard made an emergency landing because of an engine malfunction that occurred shortly after takeoff from the Far East city of Vladivostok, a news report said. No one was injured.

The plane had to turn around and circle several times to get rid of excess fuel before landing again in Vladivostok, Interfax said.

Several ambulances were waiting on the tarmac in case of an accident, but the landing went smoothly.

The Tu-154 plane, belonging to the Vladivostok Avia airline, was scheduled to travel to Yekaterinburg, 4,900 kilometers to the west.
