Peacekeeper Killed

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina -- One Russian peacekeeper was killed and another was slightly injured during an explosion as troops were preparing to destroy military equipment, the NATO-led command announced Wednesday.

The incident took place Tuesday near the town of Priboj, some 80 kilometers northeast of the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo during an operation called "Autumn Harvest,'' which involves the voluntary surrender of weapons and ammunition left over from the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.

The injured soldier was transported by helicopter to a U.S. base near the northern Bosnian town of Tuzla. His condition is stable, the statement said.
