Investigation Continues

MOSCOW -- Investigators have extended their probe into whether Kremlin officials received kickbacks from a Swiss construction firm, the lead prosecutor said Friday.

The investigation began in October after reports that high-ranking officials in President Boris Yeltsin's administration, including Kremlin property manager Pavel Borodin, had been bribed to help the Lugano, Switzerland-based Mabetex firm win expensive contracts to renovate the Kremlin.

Prosecutor Ruslan Tamayev said he had decided to extend the investigation for six months so that investigators could conduct a detailed review of the presidential administration's finances.
