Counterfeiters Closed

MOSCOW -- Police have closed down two factories producing counterfeit Nescaf? instant coffee, Nestl? said Wednesday.

Rampant counterfeiting is one of the main headaches for investors in Russia, said Andreas Schl?pfer, managing director of Nestl? in Russia.

The coffee was sold in local open air markets, among other places. Schl?pfer said the volume of illegal output had varied, but had been a large share of the market.

It took more than a year before police made the arrests.

"There was a very elaborate operation found at one of the two operations, mainly a filling and packing operation," Schl?pfer said.

He said the raids indicated some political support for beleaguered investors.
