Canadians Win Again

MOSCOW -- A late goal by Hall of Famer Frank Mahovlich on Tuesday gave Canada a 4-3 win and a 2-0 lead in a four-game series over Russia commemorating their ice hockey rivalry of a quarter of a century ago.

With time running out in the final period Mahovlich, who won six Stanley Cups in his 18-year NHL career, beat goaltender Dmitry Ushakov to break a 3-3 deadlock and silence a capacity crowd of 4,200 in Voskresensk, about 40 kilometers outside of Moscow.

Yury Lebedev, who like Mahovlich also played in the series between the Soviet Union and Canada in 1972 and 1974, scored twice in a losing cause.
