Bulgaria Urged to Sell

BOROVETS, Bulgaria -- Bulgaria would benefit if it sealed a $510 million deal selling 51 percent in its state telecommunications monopoly to a consortium embracing Dutch KPN and Greek OTE, an official said Friday.

Privatization Agency chief Zahari Zhelyaskov also urged the buyers to hold back on some of their demands.

"It is best for the country to finalize the current telecom deal rather than start a new privatization procedure, as there are no guarantees that the next deal would be more successful," Zhelyaskov said.
