236 Fisherman Rescued

MOSCOW -- A salvage vessel on Wednesday ferried 236 North Korean fishermen out of a remote settlement in the Far East, where they had been stranded for more than a month after their boat ran aground.

The fishermen's boat was thrown onto the rocky coast near the Bering Sea settlement of Apuka during a storm Nov. 9, Itar-Tass reported. The fishermen were accommodated in a school building, a hospital and offices in the settlement, which has a population of about 80, the report said.
