Swissair Joins U.S. Pact

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Airlines Swissair, Sabena and American Airlines said Thursday they have agreed to an expanded pact for sharing trans-Atlantic routes.

The partners said they had applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for antitrust clearance for the arrangement.

The 10-year agreement between the Swiss national carrier and its Belgian affiliate and American follows the decision by Delta Airlines to drop out of a similar alliance with Swissair and Sabena.

Under the plans, American and Swissair will operate codeshare flights between Zurich and Chicago, and American and Sabena between Brussels and Chicago.
