Soccer Chief Tanked

MOSCOW -- Russia's soccer chiefs sacked Sergei Khusainov, the embattled head of the country's referees' association, on Wednesday but denied the dismissal was linked to allegations of drunkenness.

"The executive board of the Russian Soccer Union unanimously voted to dismiss Khusainov as RA chairman," RFU president Vyacheslav Koloskov told a news conference.

Khusainov and three other Russian match officials were accused by Israeli officials of being drunk when they landed at Tel Aviv airport on the eve of a UEFA Cup tie between Hapoel Haifa and Belgium's Club Bruges in September. They were also accused of harassing policewomen and waitresses.
