Setback for Spas

MOSCOW -- A Moscow district court on Friday annulled the election registration of the Spas movement, whose election list is topped by Alexander Barkashov, leader of the nationalist Russian National Unity movement.

In its verdict the court satisfied the Justice Ministry's demand that Spas' registration be cancelled on the grounds that documents for the movement's regional branches were found to contain false information.

Spas representatives said they will appeal the decision in the Moscow City Court. "If we are turned down, we will appeal further up to the international court in Strasbourg," said the movement's lawyer, Mikhail Kuznetsov.
