Russia, Cuba Unbeaten

TOKYO -- Cuba and Russia remained undefeated at 5-0 to lead the 12-nation men's volleyball World Cup round-robin tournament Tuesday.

The United States stood third at 4-1. Triple world champion Italy and Spain were tied 3-2, but Italy stood fourth on the basis of sets won and lost.

Russia, led by Serguei Tetioukhine's 24 points, beat the United States 25-22, 25-19, 20-25, 30-32, 15-11 in two hours.

Osvaldo Fernandez scored 15 points to lead Cuba to a 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 victory over Japan (1-4).

Sydney Olympic berths go to the top three finishers in this tournament, which runs to Dec. 2.
