Lukashenko Invited

MOSCOW -- President Boris Yeltsin invited the leader of Belarus to come to Moscow for a state visit this week to sign a treaty to bring the two former Soviet republics closer together.

During a telephone conversation Saturday, Yeltsin invited Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko to come to Moscow this Friday to sign the agreement, which the Belarussian leader previously has been reluctant to accept because it does not go far enough in creating a single union.

According to the Kremlin press service, Lukashenko accepted Yeltsin's invitation.
