Kazakh Trade Declines

ALMATY, Kazakhstan -- Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia dropped 40 percent year-on-year in the first nine months of 1999, a top Russian official said Friday.

Turnover is forecast to fall from $3.2 billion last year to around $2.5 billion in 1999, the Russian trade representative in Kazakhstan, Yury Kazachenko, said.

Trade between the two countries has declined since Kazakhstan slapped limits on imports of Russian food and consumer goods in the first half of this year.
