Investor Halts Work

KIEV -- The U.S. Pioneer Hi-Bread company has announced it has halted investments into Ukraine's state agricultural sector until the government pays the $2.5 million it owes, a news agency reported.

Pioneer Hi-Bread, one of the world's largest companies in the sphere of seeds' genetics and production, supplied Ukraine's Ukragrokhim state company with 1.258 million corn seeds in 1993. However, the government failed to pay the sum agreed to for the seeds.

"All the investment projects are frozen. And they will not be activated until the debt is paid out in the whole amount," Interfax reported the company's representative as saying Friday.
