Government Fired

MOSCOW -- The president of Ingushetia, which has been overwhelmed by refugees from neighboring Chechnya, said Tuesday he had fired the local government.

"The government failed to turn into a team of professionals," Ruslan Aushev told RTR state television. "It has proved helpless and incapable of deciding even simple tasks."

Itar-Tass said Aushev told the regional assembly that the dismissed government had accomplished no more than its predecessor, but he understood that ministers were exhausted.

Aushev was tougher in comments to NTV, saying ministers were incapable of adapting to the post-Soviet economy.
