Bykov Seeks Asylum

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Tycoon Anatoly Bykov, wanted on a host of criminal charges by Russian authorities, has asked for political asylum in Hungary, state-run radio reported Monday.

Earlier in the month, Russia's prosecutor general formally asked Hungary to extradite Bykov.

Hungarian police arrested Bykov last month crossing into Hungary from Yugoslavia, and said they were ready to turn him over to Russian authorities pending an official extradition request.

Hungarian officials said an international warrant charged Bykov with murder, money laundering and gun running, but that he had broken no Hungarian laws.
