Boeing Rectifies Wages

NEW YORK -- Boeing Co. has agreed to pay at least $4.5 million to women and minority employees who the U.S. government says are paid less than their white male counterparts, according to people involved in the settlement, the largest ever under a Labor Department affirmative action compliance program.

In addition, Boeing agreed to examine the pay of all its nonunion employees - accounting for about half of its 202,000 workers - over the next four years and make further adjustments if it found evidence of pay disparities based on a formula agreed upon with the Labor Department.

The agreement was signed Thursday and was expected to be announced Friday. The deal comes after several months of legal jousting between the Labor Department and Boeing and after the settlement of a class-action discrimination suit against the company.
