Yeltsin, Chirac Speak

MOSCOW -- President Boris Yeltsin and French President Jacques Chirac spoke by telephone Sunday and discussed the fighting in Chechnya, the presidential press service said.

Yeltsin told Chirac that Russia is "using appropriate ways and methods as regards the gangs in Chechnya. Everything possible is being done to help the civilians, including those who have temporarily left Chechnya," a statement from the press service said.

Yeltsin and Chirac also "noted their joint concern over the refusal of the U.S. Senate to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and the intention of Washington to revise the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty," the statement said.
