Dance Shorts


For you ballet fans who just can't bear to watch Swan Lake again, try the two one-act ballets on offer Tuesday by the Moskva Chamber Ballet at the Pushkin Theater. The first is a comic ballet by Ivan Armsgeimer about high seas romance, "Cavalleria Rusticana"; the second - "The Shop of Miracles" - is set to music by Rossini and Respighi. The performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Moskva Chamber Ballet at the Pushkin Theater, located at 23 Tverskoi Bulvar. Tickets are from 30 to 100 rubles ($1.16 and $3.88). Tel. 203-8582. Enlightening Ornaments


If you have never considered the propaganda potential of porcelain, you are in for a treat at the Russian Decorative Applied and Folk Art Museum. Highlights include figurines illustrating the presentation of Josef Stalin's Constitution to the Uzbek people and the (evil) white and (heroic) red chess set. Mother's Little Helper


Maxim Gorky's "Mother" might be a classic, but how many of us can say we've actually read it? Well, Tuesday's showing of the 1926 film of the book lets us off the hook.
