Space Groups Link Up

FRANKFURT, Germany -- In a new merger in Europe's aerospace industry, DaimlerChrysler Aerospace of Germany, France's Aerospatiale Matra and Marconi Electronic Systems of Britain said Monday they would form a space consortium.

The announcement by DaimerChrysler Aerospace, known as Dasa, said the new linkup would be called Astrium.

Matra Marconi Space, a French-German partnership, will pool its resources with Dasa's space activities.

Astrium should begin operations in early 2000, after approval from European Union antitrust authorities, the statement said.
