Metal Duties Extended

Russia has extended a 5 percent export tariff on a range of metals, including precious ones, which was to expire Friday, the head of the Trade Ministry's press service said.

"Prime Minister [Vladimir] Putin signed a resolution extending the tariff indefinitely late Thursday. The resolution took effect immediately," Igor Makurin said.

Normally, a government resolution becomes effective after it is officially published. But a spokeswoman for the government gazette - which did not publish the resolution Friday - said the government was allowed by presidential decree to make some exceptions.
