Ferrochrome Duty Cut

MOSCOW -- The European Commission has reduced anti-dumping duties imposed in 1993 on low-carbon ferrochrome sales from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan to the European Union, Interfax reported Friday.

Interfax quoted a Commission statement that said the duty of 0.31 euros (33 cents) per kilogram on ferrochrome with a carbon content of up to 0.5 percent would not apply to ferrochrome with a chrome content of under 30 percent on or after Sept. 18.

Russia produced 203,000 metric tons of ferrochrome in 1998, down 18.2 percent on the 1997 figure, Interfax said.
