Copper Giant Registers

YEKATERINBURG, Ural Mountains -- The Yekaterinburg region has registered a new company which may become one of the country's largest copper producers, a resolution published in a regional official gazette said Tuesday.

It said the Urals Mining and Metallurgy Co. had been registered as a commercial organization with some foreign capital, but gave no details of its capital structure or composition.

A spokesman for refined copper producer Uralelectromed, which had initiated the establishment of the firm, declined to comment before an official presentation of the company, which he expected shortly.

Uralelectromed has estimated the Urals Mining and Metallurgy Co. capacity at 360,000 tons of refined copper per year.
