Lego to Cut 1,000 Jobs

COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Lego, which makes plastic building bricks for children, is to slash 1,000 jobs, or 10 percent of its employees, in its business throughout the world, director Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen said in the internal company newspaper Inform on Thursday.

He also said Lego had to improve its annual results by 1 billion kroner by slimming down its operations. Restructuring would affect mainly people involved in sales, marketing and finance.

The company is to publish the results in April, which are expected to show Lego's first loss since the 1930s.
