Inuit Send Russia Aid

OTTAWA -- An aircraft belonging to the Inuit of Quebec was to leave Tuesday carrying 14 metric tons of food to help Siberian Inuit living near the Bering Strait, an organizer said.

A Boeing 727 of First Air, an airline owned by Quebec Inuit that usually links settlements in the Canadian arctic, will carry some 500,000 Canadian dollars ($325,000) worth of food, Inuit spokesman Rene Bouffard said.

The foodstuffs include flour, margarine, powdered milk and cooking oil, Bouffard said.

The aid, provided mostly by the Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian International Development Agency is to be distributed to about 1,500 residen ts of three isolated communities in the Chukota region, a CIDA official said.
