$1M in Heroin Seized

MOSCOW -- In one of the largest drug busts in five years, Russian customs agents arrested a suspected drug trafficker carrying 6 kilograms of heroin worth more than $1 million, officials said Tuesday.

The suspect, whose identity was withheld, was arrested at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport on Monday, the State Customs Committee said, Itar-Tass reported. The man was coming from the Central Asian republic of Tajikistan, which borders Afghanistan.

On New Year's Eve, customs confiscated 800 grams of heroin from several Tajik citizens at the same airport. One of those held was a member of an aircrew.

Last year, Tajik officials confiscated more than 2 tons of various drugs, including hundreds of kilograms of heroin.
