India Orders 10 Jets

MOSCOW -- India plans to buy 10 more Russian Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jets in a contract worth about $350 million, Interfax said Wednesday.

The Soviet Union was India's chief arms supplier and Moscow still supplies much of New Delhi's military equipment.

Under a current military agreement, the two countries are developing anti-tactical ballistic missile systems as well as upgrading MiG-21 fighters and T-72 tanks that India already possesses.

The purchase of the Sukhoi-30MKI jets is part of an agreement concluded in 1996 under which India agreed to purchase at least 40 Russian military jets before 2002, Interfax said.
