IBM Signs Partner Deal

LONDON -- Cable and Wireless Communications PLC said it has entered into a pounds 1.8 billion ($3 billion) information technology partnership with IBM.

As part of the 10-year deal, 1,000 workers from Cable and Wireless will be transferred to IBM Global Services. IBM will hire up to another 400 people to help Cable and Wireless use computers to operate more efficiently and to better serve its customers.

The Cable and Wireless chief executive, Graham Wallace, said Wednesday that by teaming up with IBM, his company can improve its operations "much more quickly and effectively.''
