Hostage Was Raped

LONDON -- Camilla Carr, one of two British hostages released a week ago after 443 days held in captivity by gunmen in the rebel region of Chechnya, was repeatedly raped, The Mail on Sunday reported.

The newspaper quoted Carr, 40, as saying that her ordeal lasted for several months, although she never saw the face of her assailant because all four gunmen who held her and fellow hostage Jon James, 38, wore masks.

"I believe that when the guard got to know us as people he realized it was wrong to rape me. It stopped and he apologized to me," the newspaper quoted Carr as saying in an extended interview with both former hostages.

Both hostages were also threatened with torture and were victims of mock executions, the newspaper said.
